The best thing about this effect is that the other actors and actresses in the scene had no idea this was going to happen. They knew something was happening, but they never imagined anything like this. Only John Hurt, Ridley Scott and the crew knew what was happening. The reactions here are all genuine. It’s touches like this that make the first two Alien films the definitive sci-fi horror films.
